| UK Government Grants for Free Insulation | ||
On 11th September, 2008, the government announced plans for it's new Home Energy Saving Programme. This initiative is designed to help householders in the UK in the long term, by making their homes energy efficient with a free home insulation grant - this will help save on fuel bills and also help the environment. |

The government is offering Cavity Wall Insulation grants and Loft Insulation grants, to help householders with the cost of insulating their homes. Depending on your family's income you may be eligible for an insulation grant - in some cases the whole cost is covered by the government and your insulation will be free. Websites are available to help you work out if you are eligible for free insulation and can help you to make an online application. The insulation grants do not have to be repaid and once installed could help you save as much as £270 off your annual heating fuel bill.
| Free Insulation Grant Free insulation grants are available for anyone aged 70 or over, plus people on certain types of benefit or tax credit, including: |
- Income Support
- Council Tax Benefit
- Housing Benefit
- Child Tax Credit (combined household income under £15,592)
Grants Towards Part of the Cost of Insulation
If you don't qualify for a 100% grant towards the cost of your insulation, you will be eligible for a grant towards 50% or 70% of the cost. All homeowners and private tenants are allowed this grant and it is worth applying because the savings made will soon pay for the initial outlay costs of having the insulation installed. The government call this type of grant 'able to pay funding.'
How to Apply for an Insulation Grant
Insulation grants are only eligible for work carried out by approved insulation installers, who are paid directly by the government, so there is no DIY involved. This ensures that the grant money is going to the right place and that the insulation is also fitted correctly.
